No:264/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the EU Commission Josep Borrell

On 15 May 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the EU Commission Josep Borrell within the framework of his visit to Brussels.
At the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU), including cooperation in the fields of energy and transport corridors, the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the current situation in the region.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized the importance of the latest meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia held in Brussels after a break of nearly 9 months in terms of advancing the peace agenda.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized our country’s commitment to the normalization of relations between the two countries based on the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty. It was emphasized that it is important to prevent attempts to hinder the process, including Armenia’s latest provocations. Along with this, it was stated that eliminating Armenia’s mine threats is important.
The sides also noted the importance of the speedy completion of negotiations on a new agreement that will form the legal basis of relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
