No:035/23, Press release on the summoning of Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to our country Seyed Abbas Mousavi to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On 27 January 2023, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan Seyed Abbas Mousavi was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in connection with the terrorist attack against the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
At the meeting, it was emphasized that the armed assault and terrorist act committed against the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran was strongly condemned, and that such attacks against diplomatic missions are unacceptable.
It was underlined that, arising from the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, it is the duty of the receiving side to protect the premises of the mission against any attack and to ensure the security of its employees.
In this regard, it was strongly demanded that the competent authorities of Iran promptly hold the person who committed the terrorist act accountable, comprehensively investigate the terrorist act, identify and punish other participants involved in the organization and commission of the crime.
At the meeting, the Azerbaijani side also voiced deep regret over the planned anti-Azerbaijan campaign conducted against it in Iran recently, and that what happened further aggravated the already complex relations.
Iranian Ambassador Seyed Abbas Mousavi strongly condemned the armed incident that occurred against the Azerbaijani Embassy and stated that he felt deep sorrow over what happened, and expressed his deep condolences to the family of the Embassy employee, as well as to the Government and people of Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, the Ambassador also emphasized that the relevant competent authorities of Iran immediately reacted to the incident that the matter is currently being investigated by the relevant law enforcement authorities, and that detailed information will be disclosed to the public after the investigation process is completed.
