On 5 December 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian within the framework of his participation in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Caspian littoral states.
During the meeting, bilateral and regional issues between the two countries, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed.
The contribution of high-level meetings and interagency contacts held in recent months to the development of relations was highly appreciated.
The sides discussed plans towards the development and expansion of transport and communication corridors in the region. In this regard, the importance of accelerating work within the framework of the “Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the establishment of new communication links between the Eastern Zangezur economic region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran” was noted.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, obstruction by Armenia, as well as the work carried out in the region after the anti-terror measures in the Garabagh region.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Armenia’s efforts to arm itself in the region pose a threat to peace and stability.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other bilateral and regional issues on the existing cooperation agenda between the two countries.
