No:601/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

On 18 October 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian within the framework of his participation in the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held at the ministerial level.
During the meeting, issues on the existing cooperation agenda between the two countries, matters of multilateral regional cooperation, as well as the current situation in the region were discussed.
The importance of the increasing bilateral contacts between the two countries in recent times, as well as the meetings held within the framework of the bilateral economic commission, was noted. It was stated that these contacts are also important for resolving certain issues on the agenda between the two countries.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the prospects for the peace process agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the work carried out in the region following the anti-terror measures conducted in the Garabagh region.
Speaking about the opportunities that have emerged for advancing the peace agenda, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov particularly noted the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the Establishment of New Communication Links between the East Zangazur Economic Region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through the Territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran in terms of the development and expansion of transport and communications in the region.
It was emphasized that our country remains committed to ensuring peace and security in the region and promoting regional cooperation.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other regional issues.
