On 16 October 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock.
During the telephone conversation, the current situation in the region, as well as prospects for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the other side with detailed information about the military-political provocations carried out by Armenia in recent years, the threats posed by illegal Armenian armed forces in our territories, the factors that necessitated the anti-terror measures carried out by Azerbaijan against the Armenian armed forces and the so-called regime in our territory, and the current situation in the region after the measures.
He recalled that Azerbaijan did not target Armenian residents, and that this was confirmed not only by the UN mission that visited the region, but also by the International Committee of the Red Cross and even the Prime Minister of Armenia.
It was noted that the ongoing smear campaign against Azerbaijan and the allegations about the alleged implementation of “ethnic cleansing” against Armenian residents are groundless, and that this constitutes part of the political manipulation by Armenia and some countries.
The Minister stated that Azerbaijan had announced its plans for the reintegration of Armenian residents, that work is being carried out in this direction, and that applications received from Armenians through the relevant portal are being reviewed.
It was emphasized that it is important to refrain from provocative steps that obstruct efforts towards establishing peace and security in the region, as well as statements supporting calls against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. It was stated that after the restoration of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty throughout its entire territory, there are real chances for signing a peace agreement with Armenia, and that we hope these opportunities will be positively assessed by Armenia.
Afterwards, an exchange of views was conducted on bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
