No:534/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme

On 21 September 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), within the framework of his participation in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan has established successful and productive cooperation relations with UN-Habitat, and emphasized that our country participated in a number of events organized by UN-Habitat and its partners, including the 11th Session of the World Urban Forum and the high-level event of the UN General Assembly held last year to assess progress on the implementation of the “New Urban Agenda.”
It was noted with satisfaction that our country, together with UN-Habitat, organized the Azerbaijan National Urban Forum in October last year on “Sustainable Development Goals” and the “New Urban Agenda” as the driving force of restoration and reconstruction in the post-conflict period. In addition, it was stated that, jointly organized by the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat, a number of high-level events will be held within the framework of “Urban Planning Week” starting from 29 September of the current year, including the 2nd National Urban Forum on “Sustainable cities as a driving force of economic development and combating inequalities” in Zangilan and Baku on 29 September-1 October, and it was emphasized that our country will host World Habitat Day for the first time.
The Minister also touched upon the reconstruction and restoration works carried out in our liberated territories after the 44-day Patriotic War, and stated the importance of the successful cooperation relations established with UN-Habitat in this direction.
The sides exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
