No:525/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change

On 20 September 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, within the framework of the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, issues arising from the Framework Convention on Climate Change, possible prospects for cooperation in the field of environmental protection, and the initiatives of our country within the framework of the convention were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan actively cooperates with a number of UN agencies in the implementation of several state programmes approved by our country in the field of environmental protection and restoration.
Speaking about the initiatives put forward by our country in this field towards the transition from traditional energy sources to alternative energy, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that, in this regard, the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union last year, which envisages cooperation in renewable energy production, plays an important role in promoting this field.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
