No:375/23, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia Abshir Omar Jama

On 6 July 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia Abshir Omar Jama within the framework of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
At the meeting, possible prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of increasing mutual contacts towards developing cooperation between the two countries. In this regard, the importance of holding political consultations in order to discuss existing prospects for expanding relations was emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the NAM, the development of the Movement and the strengthening of relations among Member States were among the priority directions. The importance of the initiatives implemented during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the NAM, especially the establishment of the NAM Parliamentary Network and the NAM Youth Organization, was emphasized.
Minister Abshir Omar Jama noted that Somalia has always supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and expressed Somalia’s interest in further developing relations between the two countries based on mutual respect and solidarity.
During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia was signed.
