No:253/26, Press release on the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic

On 8 June, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic were held in Baku.
At the consultations, the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department, while the Syrian delegation was headed by Mohammed Yagoub Al-Omar, Head of the Consular Department.
During the consular consultations, the current state and development prospects of cooperation in the consular field between Azerbaijan and the Syrian Arab Republic, as well as opportunities for signing new bilateral documents in this field and digitalizing consular services, were reviewed.
The sides, who exchanged information on the latest innovations implemented in the consular field, also discussed the protection of the rights and interests of citizens of the two countries, as well as issues related to the repatriation of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan from Syria.
The Syrian side stated that it is interested in studying Azerbaijan’s experience for the future development of newly established consular services.
