No:216/26, Press release on the meeting of Minister Jeyhun Bayramov with Sohail Mahmood, Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation

On 20 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Sohail Mahmood, Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8), who is on a visit to our country.
The Secretary-General expressed his gratitude for the high-level organization of the World Urban Forum (WUF-13), in which he participated, and for the useful discussions held within this framework.
During the meeting, the existing cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and D-8 was discussed, and opportunities for further developing relations in the political, economic, energy, transport and logistics fields were reviewed.
Azerbaijan’s active work within the organization during the short period since its admission to D-8 membership was highly appreciated, and the practical steps taken towards organizing D-8 Week in Azerbaijan for the first time in October 2025 and, within this framework, establishing the D-8 Energy and Climate Center, the D-8 Media Center of Excellence and the D-8 Transport Center of Excellence in our country were recalled with satisfaction. An exchange of views was conducted on the work carried out in this direction.
In general, the importance of joint efforts towards further increasing the prestige of D-8, which brings together politically and economically important countries, a population of nearly 1.3 billion and a GDP of 5 trillion, was emphasized.
At the meeting, regional and international security issues were also reviewed, and the importance of reducing tensions in the Middle East, strengthening the ceasefire and ensuring stability was noted.
At the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
