On 5 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, who is on a visit to our country.

 

During the tête-à-tête and expanded meetings held between the sides, the sides reviewed in detail the current situation and prospects of Azerbaijan-EU relations.

 

The intensity of political dialogue and the importance of high-level mutual visits were emphasized, and the importance of developing the partnership on the basis of mutual respect, equality and common interests was noted. In addition, the importance of dialogue mechanisms between Azerbaijan and Europe, the resumption of negotiations on a new bilateral agreement, and the negotiations conducted on the Partnership Priorities document was emphasized.

 

During the meeting, opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, energy security, transport and logistics, green energy and digitalization were discussed. Azerbaijan’s contribution to Europe’s energy security and its role as a reliable partner were noted.

 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, the restoration and reconstruction works carried out by Azerbaijan, as well as the measures taken in the field of combating the mine threat. An exchange of views was conducted on the normalization process with Armenia. Azerbaijan’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region was once again emphasized.

 

The sides also conducted an exchange of views on regional and international security issues. In this context, cooperation within the framework of multilateral platforms, as well as opportunities for joint action against global challenges, were discussed.

 

During the meeting, the development prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU within the framework of various institutions and programs were also reviewed.

 

The sides also conducted an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
