No:186/26, Press release on political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Montenegro

On 28 April 2026, the next round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Montenegro was held in the city of Podgorica.

 

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Fariz Rzayev, while the Montenegrin delegation was headed by State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Periša Kastratović.

 

Within the framework of the consultations, the current situation of political relations on issues of bilateral cooperation was reviewed, and the importance of mutual visits in terms of strengthening the existing political dialogue was emphasized. In addition, discussions were conducted on the current situation and development prospects of cooperation in the economic, energy, tourism and humanitarian fields, as well as on strategic energy and transport projects implemented by our country.

 

An exchange of views was also conducted on existing plans aimed at expanding the treaty-legal framework.

 

The sides focused on issues of mutual activity on international platforms, as well as the development of cooperation within the framework of various international organizations and mutual support for candidacies.

 

During the consultations, a detailed exchange of views was conducted on the current situation in the region, the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, large-scale restoration, reconstruction and demining works carried out in our liberated territories, as well as international issues of mutual interest.

 

Within the framework of the visit, F. Rzayev also held business meetings with a number of other officials of Montenegro, as well as participated in discussions held in a roundtable format at the University of Montenegro.
