07 February 2023 17:50

On 7 February 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to the Republic of Azerbaijan Muriel Peneveyre in connection with the completion of her diplomatic tenure in our country.

During the meeting, the bilateral relations agenda covering cooperation in various fields between Azerbaijan and Switzerland, cooperation issues within the framework of international organizations, as well as the current regional and international situation were discussed.

Noting the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland in political, economic, trade, connectivity, humanitarian and other fields, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked Ambassador Muriel Peneveyre for her efforts in this direction and wished her success in her future activities.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other side in detail about the situation in the region in the post-conflict period, restoration works in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, as well as efforts towards advancing the peace and normalization agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Speaking about Armenia’s steps undermining the peace agenda in the post-conflict period, including the provocations that caused the rightful protest of representatives of Azerbaijani civil society around the Lachin road, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated that despite such provocations, as well as Armenia’s groundless claims calculated to mislead the international community, Azerbaijan is determined in the peace process.

The Minister also provided detailed information on mine threats. He advanced examples showing that claims about the situation around the Lachin road having a negative impact on blockade or the humanitarian situation are groundless.

Ambassador Muriel Peneveyre stated that there is potential for further developing relations between Azerbaijan and Switzerland both at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and that strengthening efforts in this regard would contribute to the development of relations. She recalled with satisfaction the events held last year on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the work of the bilateral commission and high-level visits. The importance of continuing the normalization agenda and negotiations on the peace agreement towards the establishment of peace and security in the region was noted.

During the meeting, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
