On 1 February 2023, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda Odongo Jeje Abubakhar held a telephone conversation.
During the telephone conversation, prospects for bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Uganda and cooperation issues within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) were discussed.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov referred with satisfaction to the existence of an effective cooperation agenda between the two countries within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and other international platforms. In this regard, the other side was provided with detailed information about the preparations for the Summit-level meeting of the NAM Contact Group on the fight against COVID-19 to be held in Baku in March of the current year.
Azerbaijan’s successful Chairmanship of the Movement since 2019, as well as the global initiatives it has put forward towards contributing to the development of the Movement, were recalled with satisfaction. In this regard, the importance of sharing Azerbaijan’s successful experience of Chairmanship of the NAM with Uganda as the next Chair of the Movement was noted.
At the same time, the sides discussed preparations for the 19th Summit of the NAM, planned to be held in Kampala, Uganda, in December 2023.
During the telephone conversation, an exchange of views was also conducted on other issues of mutual interest.
