Bilateral relations

The Republic of Azerbaijan recognized the independence of Montenegro on July 24, 2006 and diplomatic relations were established between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Montenegro on April 24, 2008.         

On April 24, 2012 diplomatic mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Montenegro was opened.            

Since March 28, 2015 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Azerbaijan is Mr. Branko Milić (with his residence in Ankara).

On December 20, 2018 the Government of Montenegro adopted a decision to open a diplomatic mission in Baku.                                                                 

On April 9, 2019 the diplomatic mission of Montenegro in the Republic of Azerbaijan started its activity. Currently, Mr. Željko Radulović is working as a Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Montenegro.

                                                           

High- level visits

On June 12, 2015 President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Filip Vujanović paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.                                                     

On March 9, 2016 President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Filip Vujanović paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.                                                     

On March 14-19, 2017 President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Filip Vujanović paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.                                                     

On March 14-16, 2019 President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Milo Đukanović paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

 

Visits of the Prime Ministers

On October 27-28, 2015 Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr. Milo Đukanović paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.    

                                                                  

Visits of Ministers of Foreign Affairs

On November 1-3, 2017 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Mr. Srđan Darmanović paid a working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

 

Cooperation in the humanitarian sphere

In 2013 reconstruction and landscaping works were carried out in the Royal Park in Podgorica with the support of Azerbaijan, and a bust to great Azerbaijani poet and playwright Huseyn Javid was erected in this park.

One of the streets of Podgorica was named “Baku” in 2013 and reconstruction and landscaping works were carried out on this street with the support of Azerbaijan.

In 2013 a kindergarten named after Dusan Bagevic was built in the city of Bijelo Polje in Montenegro with the support of Azerbaijan.

Joint Intergovernmental Commission

On March 5, 2014 the first meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Montenegro took place in Podgorica, Montenegro.
