On December 28, 2010, Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Togo was signed in New York.
On May 8-9, 2014, Mr. Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, paid an official visit to Togo by the invitation of the Chief Customs Office of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Togo to discuss the development of cooperation between the customs services of Azerbaijan and Togo.
During the visit, meetings were held with Commissioner of Customs and Customs Taxes of the Republic of Togo Mr. Kodjo Adedze (“The Agreement on Mutual Assistance between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Togo in the area of capacity building of customs officials” was initialed), Commissioner general of the Togo Office of RevenueMr. Henry Gaperi, and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Togo Mr. Adji Oteth Ayassor. (The signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Togo on mutual assistance in enhancing the capacity of customs officials was held).
On September 27, 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Togo Mr. Robert Dussey in New York. The ministers exchanged views on the development of cooperation between the two countries. The sides discussed ways to strengthen economic, trade and humanitarian ties
In 2018, Azerbaijan International Development Agency in partnership with ADA University with the aim to support the development of human capital in developing countries organized a refresher course for foreign diplomats from several countries in Asia and Africa ("Advanced Foreign Service Program for Foreign Diplomats"). On 10-30 November, 2018, diplomats from Togo, Bangladesh, Djibouti, China, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Palestine, Kenya, Malaysia, Mongolia, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Somalia and Vietnam attended the program.
