In 2014-2016, the Republic of Azerbaijan funded a project for girls' education in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya through its Trust Fund established between Azerbaijan and UNESCO. 300 000 USD has been allocated for this particular project.
On January 21-31, 2016, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev met with Foreign Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania Mr. Augustine Mahiga at the sidelines of the 26th Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa. During the meeting, the sides discussed expansion of economic cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Tanzania, in particular, the prospects for cooperation in tourism, culture, energy, telecommunications.
On February 07, 2019, the Permanent Representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations signed a Joint Communiqué on establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Communique states that the parties intend to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between their countries and peoples and adhere to the UN Charter and generally accepted norms and principles of international law, especially the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
